TH-350's hold 10 Qts including the torque convertor. Proper fill procedure is to pour three Qts into the transmission with the engine off. Then start the engine and pour the remaining 7 Qts in. The trans pump lubricates the trans and begins filling the convertor with the first three qts and the remaining 7 Qts finish the job.

B&M says that when you have a NEW flexplate (or in good condition) the acceptable gap (before the cv bottoms in the crankshaft) should be 1/16 to 1/8. Also, when the flexplate to converter bolts are tightened, the flexplate will bow backwards slightly, so no worries there. Why not use shims, for as long as you have 1/16 to 1/8 left.
